Poem on Waking

Dreaming the DomesticThe bed was shaking.   
It felt like an earth quake, but earth quakes didn't smell like fabric softener and cookies and they surely didn't whisper "Mama, Mama, Mama," over and over again.  
 
She rolled over, buried her face between Ash's shoulder blades.   
And heard him snort laughter.  
 
So, he was awake.     
"Your daughter wants something," she muttered.   
"She's not calling my name, chère."   
"My name isn't 'Mom'," she said, rolling back over to stare at the four year old standing there in her white and purple nightgown with kittens on the hem, one a Dreaming the Domestic

SparkSomething moves in shadows.  
 
Humanity has long forgotten its face, its name. To them, it exists only in fairy tales, bound safely inside vellum and leather.  
 
She knows better.  The charms tattooed on her wrist tingle, burn.  
 
She whispers an old word.   
Light sparks.   
The dark is empty.

The words seemed torrid falling off his tongue, not at all like the cool silky beauty he’d heard from Rillah’s lips just a few weeks ago. They tasted strange; with Seere he had a hand in crafting the lyrics he sung, here he was curling his lips around words belonging solely to someone else. Previous covers had never been so uncomfortable…   
But then the covers he’d performed had never included the lyricist and composer lounging in front of him gauging his every vo Annointing

NaNoWriMo '09

At the beginning of the year, I said I wouldn't.

Backtrack...I got a novel idea back in late December/early January.

I've been playing with it since then. I have a very brief outline of several chapters. Some character sketches. Some flash fictions of scenes I don't see being in the novel (at least not all of them/in full), but they do have an impact on character development.

And, so all this talk of NaNoWriMo got me to log into my account, consider it, and...

I've decided I'm going to try it again this year.

My last time was in '07. I completed the 50,000 words in 30 days and came out of November feeling like I'd spent the month in a constant 'tween state. I might have stumbled upon Tír na nÓg or Brigadoon for all I remember of November '07.

...And I'm going to do this again?

I think I've officially lapsed in sanity.

Maybe this year will involve an actual fugue state?
